What is a (Content Management System) CMS?
Don’t worry, it’s not as complex as it sounds.
People often ask me what a CMS is when I mention it. It’s really a fancy way of explaining a website that can be amended, maintained or added to by the website owner.
If you have a website coded in HTML, you can only change parts of it if you know HTML. I know a little, but I wouldn’t want to go mucking about in there under the bonnet. Just like I wouldn’t like to change the pistons on my car. I’ll leave that to a proper mechanic.
But the average motorist is perfectly capable of filling up with petrol, adding an air freshener or checking fluids. And so is the average website owner.
A CMS is a way of managing the content of a website, allowing the site administrator to make changes easily without needing in-depth technical skills. And that is what a CMS allows you to do. It allows you to make amends to your site without having to get us involved (and paying us to do it!). Stuff like adding pages, or amending dates or times, adding images to your gallery.
Here at TimMo Ltd, we can either use WordPress or we can benefit from WWD’s own designed and coded bespoke CMS.
Of course, if you don’t want to tinker with your site, you can just leave it to us. We are cool either way. And of course, if you do want to, we are always on hand to help you out should you break something.
